Who We Are

Our History

Due to the prevalence of food insecurity in the lives of families in the Lake City community, and a mandate to fill this need, Place of Hope was established by Christiana Odugunwa in 2002. Our first branch was the food bank ministry, which opened once a week to give food to individuals.

We expanded our services in 2010 by opening a clothing bank, with new and lightly used clothing, due to the increase of homelessness and underprivileged individuals in our community.  Both the food and clothing banks have grown over the years, and are currently open on Wednesdays, from 1-3pm.

In 2012, we began hosting our free annual health fair that provided a wide range of services, including primary care, health education, and health insurance information applicable to residents throughout Georgia. During the fair, volunteer nurses and providers would provide free checkups to uninsured and under-insured people. Hundreds of residents throughout several counties came and it was clear that there was an overwhelming need for a more consistent health clinic that can serve those in need.

In May 2018, the Place of Hope Clinic saw its first patient. Our free health clinic provides free primary care services to individuals who fall at, or below, 200% of the federal poverty level, AND are uninsured or under-insured.
